I am a huge fan of the Ripley approach. If you are a dude who sucks at writing ladies, just change the name once you are finished writing and you will likely have a well-rounded character instead of some bullshit stereotype of what a woman is! Because dudes and ladies are both, you know, human? And not crazy space aliens forever divided by their differences?

good afternoon, time for some gender blah blah
Interesting Little Test
Took this test on “Sex Role” Scored pretty much down the middle, slightly closer to feminine. You can check it out too at http://personality-testing.info/tests/BSRI.php.
Looks about right.
Huh. That’s a pretty solid inbetween, with a oh-so-slight inkling toward masculine. I’ll take it.
I do wonder, however, how your ‘sex role’ is decided by a random set of traits… and how or why each trait is placed as masculine or feminine.

There’s never, ever a reason to misgender someone on purpose. It doesn’t even make you look cool or anything. u_u So why do it? Even if you don’t think someone is serious about their trans* status, you don’t know what’s going on in their head, so you shouldn’t assume it’s okay to misgender them. It’s never okay to misgender people when you know how their gender/preferred pronouns, end of.

Androcentrism: It’s Okay to Be a Boy, but Being a Girl… » Sociological Images
I think the ‘women are required to do femininity and simultaneously punished for it’ bit sums up 90% of sexism in one sentence.
(via shashirosa)
There is no right or good way to be a woman. We are always doing something wrong. so we should just stop trying and do whatever the fuck we want.

Please, MRAs, tell me more about how hard it is to be a dude.

Laura Jane Grace's Story
I literally cried reading this. It’s such a beautiful story, although painful. The rest of the band and Heather’s quotes are comforting.
I’m so excited to get to know the real Laura. I can’t wait until I see AM! again in June.
HERE IT IS READ IT READ IT READ IT
I want to send her hugs in the mail. eeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Argentina: doing it right. After passing a groundbreaking gender identity law on Wednesday, Argentina, which became the first Latin American country to legalize same-sex marriage, now leads the entire world when it comes to trans rights.
The new law, which was passed by 55-0 and is expected to be signed by president Cristina Fernandez, grants trans people the right to legally change their gender identity without having to get approval from doctors or judges–and, importantly, without having to change their bodies at all first. Not having a valid ID that matches your gender identity is a huge barrier to access to education, employment, health care, you name it. As Kalym Sori, an Argentinian trans man said, “This is why the law of identity is so important. It opens the door to the rest of our rights.”
Sex, Socialism, and Science Fiction.: Contrary to popular belief, gender and sexuality labels are worth more than just standing there and looking wordy.
Or, better titled: If the phrase “WE’RE ALL HUMAN” is about to come out of your mouth as a reason why no one should be allowed to label their gender or sexuality, do me a solid and shut the fuck up.
Here’s the thing: Being able to label your gender and sexuality…
bosh'tet!: How many cis people does it take to change a lightbulb?
None. Why can’t you just accept your lightbulb the way it is?
How many trans people does it take to change a lightbulb?
Only one, but they’ll need a note from two…
People are butts about gender sometimes! So here is a comic talking about how it really isn’t a big deal!
When I was with James this week I wrote a little poem about gender
and decided to draw a comic for said poem.Hope you guys enjoy!
holy shit omg this is the cutest
I give this several awards I may or may not have just made up
Can this please be a children’s book?
Have to post this before I go to bed. SO TRUE!
Update: 11 year old trans girl lost appeal
The above article is an update. Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost. She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender. She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.
Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined. Lets get on the ball and spread the word.
I literally just repeated the f-word until I ran out of breath.
Let me catch my breath. I may go on a cursing spree again as soon as I get it back.
DIE CIS SCUM!
Seriously people…
A Radical Transfeminist: Things I'm Expected To Do for Cis People in Return for Their Not Hating Me: An Angry List
After seeing bidyke’s remix of sanctimonioussilentagony’s list, I thought I’d sketch out the beginnings of one for transsexual folk. Improvements welcome:
- Answer any and all questions about my body and my medical treatment no matter how invasive
- Answer questions about my partner’s sexuality
- Listen to their stories about other trans* people they know
- Listen to them talk and give them my opinions on trans* celebrities
- Celebrate with them all fictional depictions of trans* folk, no matter how misrepresentative or outright transphobic
- Congratulate them on their correct use of names and pronouns
- Obey when they refer to me incorrectly and tell me that I “must forgive them”
- Smile sadly and thank them when they tell me how brave I am
- Use the accessible toilet and be grateful
- Stay silent if they misidentify me as gay and cis
- Sympathise with their excuses for their and others’ transphobia
- Approve their use of the word ‘tranny’
- Act ‘gendered’ enough but not too ‘gendered’
- note: these prohibitions overlap with no middle ground
- Never, ever, express or articulate any kind of sexuality
- this one may be trans*-woman-specific?
- Stay quiet when cis-specific issues are being discussed
- Never raise trans*-specific issues
- Never get angry or upset about cissexism and transphobia
- Never call out cis people on cissexism and transphobia
- Not mention specific legal protections for transsexual people to my employers
- Only be transsexual without having any other identities
- Silently excuse myself from activities and events which structurally exclude me
- Do so without raising any attention or being noticed by anybody
- Not hang out with too many other trans* people or seek trans*-only space
- Never repost Asher’s “Die Cis Scum”
- If I die, die quietly, and never blame them.
In Defense of the Spice Girls
I agree with this article except a) I think the Sexy Solo Icons also have a lot of interesting things to say about gender* and b) THOSE PEPSI ADS WERE AWESOME WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU.
* except Taylor Swift, who is never interesting
